French
At William Torbitt we have chosen to teach French as our MFL subject, and follow the Rigolo scheme for French to do this. This proven scheme of work provides not only well sequenced lessons and topics, but also practical resources and videos to assist both teachers and pupils with tricky areas such as correct pronunciation.
The Rigolo scheme aims to ensure that pupils learn to understand, ask and respond to simple questions in French with increasing confidence, as well as to be able to complete simple pieces of writing in French. The scheme also has a focus on helping pupils to understand some of the grammatical rules and structures used within the French language and how these differ from those used in the English language.
This subject is taught as a standalone area and is not specifically linked to our wider term topics. Additionally, MFL is only taught in Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6) as it it’s not a curriculum requirement for younger children.
