RE
At William Torbitt we follow the Redbridge Agreed Syllabus for RE (SACRE) – this curriculum has been drawn up within the local authority with input and agreement from representatives of the different faiths within our borough and community. As such the units for this topic do not link directly to our wider termly topics, though where there is the opportunity to make meaningful links this has been done (e.g. Learning about ‘Building a Fairer World’ whilst learning about how to effect change around issues pupils care about in Year 6)
The SACRE syllabus features units on all of the major religions found within our local community, and many of these are repeated as themes of the course of the curriculum to allow children the chance to revisit prior learning and develop greater knowledge of the beliefs and practises of others.
Our RE curriculum is also supported by trips to places of worship within the local community and we work hard to invite religious leaders into the school to share their faith and experiences with pupils, particularly through our assembly programme.
